9월. 08. 2021
Asia’s leading entertainment and lifestyle company CJ ENM announced that the '2021 Mnet ASIAN MUSIC AWARDS(hereafter MAMA)', the world's No.1 K-pop music awards, will be hosted on December 11. As one of the most anticipated annual awards ceremony that celebrates K-pop, MAMA will once again be streamed to fans across the globe.

Over the years, Asia's biggest music awards ceremony MAMA has brought together the brightest stars and artists in music and promoted exchanges between different music markets. More than 530 artists and presenters have appeared on the show, including 30-plus international artists, and viewers have tuned in from more than 200 territories. One unique feature that global fans anticipate each year is global superstars paired with K-pop artists for iconic collaboration stages that cannot be seen anywhere else. Global artists and presenters include: BTS, Dua Lipa, James Corden, Janet Jackson, Jimmy Fallon, Quincy Jones, Snoop Dogg, Stevie Wonder, Wiz Khalifa, will.i.am, etc.

Acclaimed by fans around the world for its advanced stage production and mega-scale performances, MAMA has also been instrumental in introducing the latest K-pop trends and Korea’s high-end production system to global audiences. Fans can expect more groundbreaking numbers and one-of-a-kind stages produced by MAMA, using cutting-edge technology.

Meanwhile, MAMA’s origin traces back to 1999, then known as the Mnet KM Music Festival(MKMF), later rebranded and renamed to Mnet Asian Music Awards in 2009. Its Asian tour was first launched in Macau, followed by 2011 MAMA in Singapore. MAMA has been held in Hong Kong since 2012, highlighting the event’s pan-Asian popularity.

Expanding its footprints across the globe, MAMA continued to make history as a pioneer in the K-pop industry. It was the first ever K-pop awards ceremony to be held in two or more regions in 2017(Vietnam, Japan and Hong Kong) and 2018(Korea, Japan and Hong Kong). In 2019, MAMA was the first awards ceremony held in a dome stadium, in Nagoya where 44K fans joined to celebrate the K-pop’s finest achievements.

“One of the biggest disruptions of the pandemic has been the loss of live music and entertainment, which took a big hit. We hope that this year’s MAMA will be able to shine light on the music industry with another unforgettable show. We are excited for the world to join in the celebration and enjoy the groundbreaking numbers by the best, most talked about musicians produced with the most advance technology MAMA is famous for” said Hyun Soo Kim, Head of Music Entertainment at CJ ENM.

Meanwhile, 2021 MAMA hinted at the possibility of hosting the show in front of a live audience in Korea. The health, well-being and safety of all staff members, fans, and artists attending MAMA is the number one priority and MAMA is committed to following COVID safety measures and government guidelines to consider hosting a live audience.
