World’s No.1 K-Culture Festival Brings Back Fan-Favorite Panels and Dance Workshops with New Activities to Give the Full “KCONer” Experience
What: KCON LA is back this summer to connect even more fans, artists, and industry professionals for an unforgettable weekend celebration of K-pop and K-culture. This year, KCON returns with an expanded, 3-day show experience with full scale, which also means an expanded and even more star-studded artist lineup. After making its debut at KCON JAPAN 2023, “SHOWCASE: NICE TO MEET U” will come to KCON LA to showcase K-pop artists and new performances. Leading entertainment company CJ ENM successfully wrapped up KCON JAPAN 2023, the world’s No.1 K-culture festival, held at Makuhari Messe. Across three days from May 12 to 14, fans were able to meet their favorite K-POP acts as well as enjoy the taste of K-culture through expansive convention programming.
With around 123,000 visitors, KCON JAPAN 2023 marks the biggest offline attendance in the 11-year history of KCON, thus further cementing its status as a true celebration of all things K-culture.
The three-day K-POP show featured a packed lineup of star-studded acts, including ZEROBASEONE. Leading entertainment company CJ ENM announced TVING originals “Island” and Bargain” had an outstanding performance at the 2023 Cannes International Series Festival (hereinafter referred to as “Canneseries”).
Action thriller “Island” successfully screened at this year’s Canneseries, and was met with an enthusiastic ovation from audiences at the event. Actress Heo Jung-hee, who played the role of Boo Yeom-ji, represented the series, and even walked the Pink Carpet at the festival earlier.
Produced by CJ ENM's production house Studio Dragon, "Island" is a Korean drama that follows a group of individuals who are destined to fight against an evil force that seeks to destroy the world. The series is available for streaming on Prime Video and TVING, and has been officially selected for screening in the Rendez-vous section of the Canneseries. The festival showcases some of the best drama series from around the world and is one of the most prestigious events in the television industry.

Leading entertainment company CJ ENM revealed today that TVING originals “Island” and “Bargain” are invited to this year’s Cannes International Series Festival (hereinafter referred to as “Canneseries”) held from April 14 to 19.
“Island,” produced by CJ ENM’s premium storytelling group Studio Dragon, is invited to the Canneseries as part of Rendez-vous, out of competition. The fantasy action series based on the popular comic of the same title depicts an unlikable trio involved in mysterious events and fighting unknown demons. “Island” was also released on Prime Video, ranking on TOP 10 TV shows across 26 regions and landing the No.1 spot in Singapore, Philippines, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
TVING original series “Bargain” is the first Korean OTT original to be invited to the Canneseries’ Official Selection in competition. It will compete alongside 10 other nominees for five awards, including “Best Series,” that will be announced on the last day of the event. The show received wide-acclaim for its immersive story of three earthquake survivors engaging in a dangerous bargain and intense one-take scenes. “Bargain” also marks the second partnership with Paramount+, and is scheduled to launch internationally this summer where Paramount+ is available. The series is licensed by Paramount Global Content Distribution outside of Korea, Japan and Taiwan.
This news is an addition to CJ ENM’s growing presence at the Canneseries. At the inaugural event in 2018, the title “Mother”, also produced by Studio Dragon, competed in the Official Selection. Also, TVING originals “Monstrous” and “Work Later, Drink Now” received a lot of attention as they were screened at the Canneseires’ Rendez-vous last year as the first Korean OTT originals to be invited to the festival and were listed in the out of competition section.

The latest audition program “BOYS PLANET” aired this February, where contestants from all over the world are competing to be part of the global fanmade boy group voted by fans. Around 229 labels from 84 regions submitted applications, with the high global interest attesting to CJ ENM’s track record of discovering global K-POP stars.
Mnet will also feature the return of signature music series such as Queendom, Street Dance and “I Can See Your Voice 10” as well as launch fresh content including a new hip-hop series and “Mnet PRIME SHOW.”

Since 2020, CJ ENM has been honoring the figures who propose a new vision in the entertainment industry with their originality as “visionaries”. Starting with “2023 Visionary,” the ceremony will be held at the beginning of the year to better build up its purpose of shedding light on the future of the entertainment industry and inspiring individuals.
The honorees of “2023 Visionary” were selected based on data analysis, panel of specialists, and global indicators. The five selection criteria are △Only One achievement that established a substantial presence with unprecedented achievements in the Korean entertainment industry, △unlimited influence and impact that stretches across various industries even outside of entertainment, △shape-shifters creating new values that breaks down stereotypes, △unique creativity coining new genres and characters, △global influence that goes beyond regional boundaries
The evaluation process involved 60 specialists from CJ ENM with professional insight in content production and business as well as data-based analysis for objectivity. CJ ENM also partnered with Endeavor Analytics, Endeavor’s research and insights division, to identify and assess the candidates. Endeavor Analytics developed and implemented a proprietary methodology, utilizing a wide array of global data resources, such as celebrity tracking services and social media measurements. Endeavor Analytics’ association with Endeavor’s talent representation business, WME, further strengthens the evaluation’s credibility.

Screenwriter Noh Hee-kyung won Best Screenplay with her latest omnibus series, Our Blues. The 20-episode drama tells multiple stories of people who are at the end, climax, or start of their bitter yet sweet lives, working and loving on vibrant, warm Jeju Island. Aired on Netflix worldwide and tvN in Korea, it was recognized as a well-made drama in Korea.
Yumi’s Cells (S1&2) produced by Studio Dragon and aired via CJ ENM’s OTT platform TVING, has won Best Original Programme by a Streamer/OTT. Based on a famous webtoon of the same name, the drama shows Yumi’s down-to-earth story of living, working, and loving in the city to which everyone can become attached. Its well-animated characters and romantic comedy story contributed to leading TVING’s paid membership subscribers' growth during its weekly releases.
