KCON announced today the second iteration of its popular virtual fan festival with KCON:TACT 2020 FALL, a first of its kind event delivering its unique experience virtually to living rooms across the planet. KCON:TACT Summer in June drew over four million viewers in over 150 countries worldwide. Co-hosted by The Korean Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) and CJ ENM, the global celebration of Korean culture and pop music is set to take place October 16-25 from Mnet’s world class television production studio in Seoul, South Korea. KCON:TACT is an extension rather than a replacement for the physical KCON events in 2020 that have all been canceled, including Los Angeles.
KCON:TACT FALL will grow to 10 days and feature live concerts and meet & greets with dozens of top artists as well as countless hours of interactive content from influencers and artists, both live and pre-recorded. Utilizing Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR), and eXpanded Reality (XR) technology, the event will continue to push the limits of what is possible with virtual entertainment and strengthen the ways fans at home can participate in the show as a live audience.
Remarked by CJ ENM official, “This year has been an amazing opportunity for us to accelerate our experimentation with the latest technology. While we can’t be together at our in-person events, we are so proud that we have created a virtual world where fans can get a piece of that amazing artist interaction they have come to expect from KCON.”
KCON-ers from all over the world will be able to cheer together at the same time and the programs will provide English subtitles. KCON is again teaming up with YouTube to broadcast KCON:TACT 2020 FALL. The entire program will be streamed exclusively on Mnet K-Pop (
www.youtube.com/mnet) YouTube channel globally. All interactive elements, including direct artist communication, will be available only through the YouTube platform and stream. More details on membership and programming will be announced closer to the event.
KCON enters its ninth year of bringing the ultimate Korean culture fan experience worldwide. Since the festival’s inception in 2012, KCON has seen tremendous growth in attendance. Last year, KCON USA closed out the summer with over 158,000 attendees, breaking its previous attendance record. KCON LA expanded to four full days for the first time in 2019 as demand for tickets boomed. Over the years the star-studded concerts have featured a combination of the top names like BTS, MONSTA X, TWICE and rising stars. Last year’s breakout acts included ATEEZ and ITZY.
Mnet, a leading music entertainment network part of CJ ENM, and the organizer of KCON, will bring its expertise as the producers of Mcountdown and MAMA to KCON:TACT 2020 FALL to further its core goal of giving fans around the world more access to the best in K-pop music and Korean culture.
