The musical <Kinky Boots> Wins the 'Best Musical Award' at the 20th British Laurence Olivier Awards

On April 3, the Broadway musical <Kinky Boots>, co-produced by CJ E&M, won three awards at the 20th Laurence Olivier Awards, icluding the 'Best Musical, ‘Best Actor’ and ‘Best Costume’. The musical <Kinky Boots> has previously won awards for ‘Best Musical’ at the Evening Standard Theater Awards and WhatsOnStage Awards.

The Laurence Olivier Awards is the UK's most prestigious award for performances such as theater, musical, and dance. The award is given to the work that has achieved excellency in both artistry and popularity, evaluated through a screening process by a panel composed of stage experts and audiences.

The musical <Kinky Boots> premiered on Broadway in 2013 and announced the birth of a new hit musical, winning six Tony Awards and the Grammy Award for ‘Best Musical Album’ in the same year. Created by the best creative team on Broadway, including Cindy Lauper, the queen of pop, Jerry Mitchell, and Harvey Fierstein, <Kinky Boots> captivated the eyes and ears of audiences around the world with a story that anyone can relate to, exciting music that prompts shoulder moves, and gorgeous 80cm boots.
 
In 2014, CJ E&M presented the world's first licensed Korean performance after a year and a half after its premiere as a co-producer of the Broadway musical <Kinky Boots>, and it plans to continue the fever of <Kinky Boots> at Blue Square in Seoul in September. The audience's interest and expectations for the Korean performance of <Kinky Boots>, which will deliver a new cast and a more intense stage in succession to the hot craze of the musical blowing around the world, are expected to increase.

As such, CJ E&M has presented a new model to the domestic musical market by securing performance rights for the musical <Kinky Boots> in Korea, China, and Southeast Asia, and is expected to serve as a bridgehead in the Asian musical market as a global producing company.
